Waiopehu Special Needs Unit,
Levin
COMPLETED: 2016
ARCHITECT: McKenzie Higham Architects
This project included the relocation of existing buildings as well as the construction of a new standalone 375m2 single storey special needs unit which provided spaces for teaching and care of high needs students as well as for staff in their support of these students. This was an important build for Waiopehu College, merging their special needs and learning support units into one. The unit has 4 main learning areas, a kitchen and dining room set up for wheelchairs, two break away areas, a resource room, teacher aid room and separate office. A high needs mobility room included the installation of mobility, hoist and sensory equipment.
